Cindy Chien is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #140438) based in San Francisco East Bay, California and under licensed supervision. She specializes in couple therapy, trauma therapy, and relational intelligence. She leverages goal-focused counseling, scientifically proven methods, and tool-based approaches to support the needs and preferences of her clients. Cindy employs approaches developed by top couple & family therapy researchers, attending several trainings a year to stay current with the latest developments. She is a trauma-informed clinician trained in EMDR and Brainspotting. She has a background in international relations and human resources, punctuated by brief stints in product management and finance. Her efforts had built a multilateral relational bridge for engineering research exchange and promoted entrepreneurial education between UC Berkeley and Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, which continue to be relevant today. Married with one child, she renews herself through spending time with nature.
Cindy received her master’s degree in Psychology from the University of San Francisco and bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from UC Berkeley. She has native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and experience living in Kyoto, Japan.
